M&R Cattle Company is a family run Purebred Red and Black Simmental operation. Mike and his wife Roberta, along with their two children Erin and Leighton, operate a 70 head cowherd of carefully sourced Simmental genetics. After being in the purebred business for more than 20 years, M&R Cattle Co. started raising Simmental cattle after seeing many successes in the Maine Anjou breed. In 2010 the Chambers family decided to enter the Simmental breed and haven't looked back since! That year, 63 maternally elevated cows were purchased from Twin Chief of Bowden, Alberta. The purchase provided an excellent framework for the M&R herd with those genetics still shinning through today. When M&R Cattle Co. decided to return to the purebred business, the goal was to source genetics concentrating on structure and maintaining the great attributes the Simmental breed had to offer. With that in mind, the program has been able to raise a stout, sound set of bulls that will advance any program whether the purebred or commercial sector of the industry. The bulls are developed until February for the annual Select Opportunity Simmental Private Treaty Bull and Female Sale where both purebred red and black Simmentals and SimAngus bulls are sold. Females, embryos and semen are sold privately off the farm and in fall consignment sales. A small set of select purebred females will sell in the fall at the industry's most elite Simmental sales, along with SimAngus bred heifers selling in the Select Opportunity Simmental Private Treaty Sale. Our breeding philosophy emphasizes sound, easy moving cattle while maintaining the sought after Simmental performance. We have an extensive embryo and A.I. program that we use to create a consistent, predictable and high quality herd with the basis for longevity. Our goal is to offer the best possible genetics to the industry. |
